Competition Rules

Eligibility

The Competition is opened to violinists of any nationality. Junior entrants must be under 15 years of age and Senior entrants must be under 20 years of age on 17 April 2023.

How to Apply

Applications can be made online and entrants need to fill in questions in English, upload high-quality video recordings of the application repertoire, a set of documents including letters in English and proof of payment of a non-refundable application fee of CHF100. Payments must be received by the deadline so please ensure that international payments are made in good time.
Late payment of the fee will make the application void.
Payments must be made in Swiss francs.

The deadline is 12:00 midday GMT on 15 January 2023.

All documents must be received by this date and late applications will not be accepted. Entrants will be informed of their acceptance or otherwise by the end of January 2023.

A biography of max. 150 words (in English) with details of education, musical training and concert experience to date

One letter of recommendation (in English) from the entrant’s teacher

Recordings to be submitted with the application

The pieces for the pre-selection round must be recorded as high-quality videos to be uploaded on private or public YouTube.

The video of each piece of repertoire submitted with the application needs to be uploaded as a separate video file.
The performance of each piece to be submitted must be one uninterrupted take, but recordings of the various pieces to be submitted for the application can be made all on one day or separately.

Participation, travel and accommodation

Entrants will be informed of their acceptance or otherwise by the end of January 2023. Upon being accepted, entrants must confirm their intention to participate by returning the participation contract before the 15th February 2023.

The cost of travel to the Competition will be borne by the participant.

Accommodation and meals will be provided to all participants for the entire period of the Competition.

Participants are expected to remain throughout the dates regardless of whether the participant advances or not and activities are arranged to run in tandem with the Competition. Please note that any alternative or additional accommodation and related expenses are the participant’s responsibility.

All accepted participants will be responsible of their visa application for Switzerland where necessary, as well as a sufficient trip, accident and health insurance for the duration of their stay.

The Jury will be composed of a Chair and a minimum of five distinguished international musicians. All decisions of the Jury will be final. The Jury reserves the right to withhold any prize should the required standard not be achieved.

Once a participant has won the 1st Prize, he or she will not be eligible to enter the same section again.

Experienced accompanying pianists will be available to all participants with one rehearsal for the semifinal round of the Competition, and as the Competition progresses the accompanying pianists may change. Participants may bring their own pianists at their own expense but must perform with the official Competition musicians where indicated in the repertoire programme. Should you choose to bring your own pianist with you at your own expense, they will need to agree to their performances during the Competition being live streamed, recorded, filmed or broadcast (as per the below).

All music must be played from memory.

Prizewinners must agree to perform without a fee at the Gala Concert on the 22nd April 2023. All participants must agree to perform without a fee at other events during the Competition. The Competition reserves the right to photograph, record, film, web-stream and/or broadcast any part of the Competition events and participants must grant the Competition the sole and exclusive right to use of these in perpetuity. The Competition also reserves the right to share information about applicants and participants with selected partner organisations.

The decision of the pre-selection jury is final and we are unable to provide feedback on the application due to the volume of applicants.
